Ty's Micro Dragster

Post by tyhodge07 »

Since I see some on here I know from other sites and some I havent seen, ill go ahead and show off my recent project here.. this has been started and ill be copying and pasting from another site.. so here it is:

This is my project I sorta put to the side.. Tonight I decided to pull it back out and just throw it together temporary to just run it.. The front end is pretty much how it will stay, the electronics will move around alittle since there will be a top plate on the rear end whenever I finish and figure out the exact way I want that. Well check it out!

heres a pic of the rear mount I plan to do, if i do it this way i can do it myself, than use the bearings in the wheels or figure another way for the bearings, this might be my best bet as of right now

i talked to my brother in law today that works for a good year company.. the retreads semi tires, and his buddy at work is going to powder coat my chassis for me.. he said the colors he knows they have is white, bright orange, and a custom mixed purple that turns silver in the sun, they had black, green, yellow, red, but they lost the company they got it from and isnt sure if they still got it or not.. im wanting black if i cant get that i might try the purple/silver one out.

and finally, this i plan to run a 3 cell lipo, the short can fiego motor is just for temp and testing, the long can will replace that, and a mamba 25 esc, along with the new losi receiver and servo that will be released. there will be more to come

got my little bl motor today, ill get some actual pics up of it sometime later.. this smaller can motor will be used to run testing speed runs.. the longer can (still got to order) will be the main motor. i might also fab up a couple other pieces to raise the gapping in the rear alittle to house an 18th scale mamba bl motor, depending on if this bad boy can handle what itll be taking already.

im about ready to get it powder coated.. besides, whats a good easy way to bend aluminum straight, so i can have the bends as straight as possible. i need to bend it like th elittle paint shop drawing i did above.. my first ones (mock up one) arnt that straight, i want it as clean as possible

Looks pretty cool. :-o If you want good bends try this:http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.as ... t&ID=82817

they have a smaller one for around half the price, but if your going to do much sheet metal work go for the big one. They also have a really cool bending/shear but its about $200.

thanks guys..

and sidewinder.. the bends i have to do are pretty small and a c shape after its done.. so how would i go about bending the other side after the first is bent.. and what you posted looks perfect for what i need it for.

and as for the body, ill be fabing and making up my own, i plan to get as close as i can to the 10th scale bodies, and same for the wing.. itll prolly take me a few tries to get it close to how i want it.

Actually this bender: http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.as ... t&ID=82819 Might work better for you. The advantage to it is that it does flat strips and wire too. You could build a wire chassis for future dragsters.

Hey Shaun show him some of your wire chassised slot dragsters!

that ones pretty high in price, i wouldnt use it much.. the other one, i think i could make my own self, it basically looks like 2 pieces bolted at the end and bends, i can prolly do that

Yeah so I was lazy... Besides, Shaun thinks everyone hates him, I thought I'd give him some props...but like I said I was too lazy to search for it. Now that I think about it the thread was just called slot cars or something like that.
Tyhodge07 before you do your next project search "slot cars" and check out some of the piano wire and solder rigs. I think any bends were using pliers...I mean after all it was shaun who built these and I don't think he has a huge workshop.

i found a bending brake for 30 bucks :-o

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=39103

im going to call harbor monday and see if they got any special deals on this or when their going to, they seem to have different deals every week and cut prices in half, which would be really sweet if i could get this almost half off

I love harbor freight...avoid the sockets and other things that they can cheap out on but most of their stuff is great for a great price...I may have to get one of the bending brakes just to have on hand. Good find.
