I use construction foam (the blue stuff) you can get at any building material store for hills and mountains. Its easy to cut and make whatever you want with it then use cheap Wal-Mart paint water based and paint it up darker first for cracks and such then as you go get lighter.MafiaS wrote:

Basically we want to know how to build some houses, and mountains. We figured out what was good for the rocks and stuff.
its cool stuff try it out also won't damage your car if you smash into it.

Small update...
Well we purchased the turf I believe it was last thursday. We laid some of it down and stuck it to the floor nicely and even added trees. I hope my uncle will get a chance to snap a few photos but for now I can only promise it shall be soon until you all get a chance to view it.
We are pretty happy with how it is coming along so far, now our only barrier is a lap counter/timing system. We don't know where to start with that little problem.
Hopefully we could get a vid up this weekend of two cars racing. My xmod is not stock any more and it is a little quicker with some better handling. Might be a bit better racing. I hope.

use this free software...
http://www.gregorybraun.com/LapTimer.html
make this cable. number of lasers/ir phototransistors depend on # of cars to run. No need to run the lasers off separate power unless you want to, the internal batts lasted hours.

I had a single setup working great a long time ago.
To do multiple cars...
sensors/lasers are mounted vertically. use a stiff antenna and mount a small flag at the proper height to trip a single laser. The antenna wire itself
will not trip it.
A 2 car setup shouldnt take more than an hour to get working.
The cheap 5 dollar laser pointers they sell at the local convenience
mart work fine. Phototransistor are just a couple bucks from rat shak.

Clint, that is genius.
We were going to spend over 500 US for a system, but I think before we go ahead and do that we should actually give this a try.
Thanks alot for all your troubles of postin up the crazy info.
I appreciate it, I will let you know if I come across any problems. Going to talk to my uncle with some more blueprints after we purchase some of the materials for this.
Thanks once again man!
-- Edit Already a question
Will this still work if we got a parallel printer cable and followed your diagram to see where things are soldered?[/b]

yup. I cut the end off that connects to the printer and thenMafiaS wrote: Will this still work if we got a parallel printer cable and followed your diagram to see where things are soldered?[/b]
used a multimeter(resistance setting) to test which wire corresponds to each
pin#. Then just follow the diagram.
