Showcar buildup

Post by Murdoch »

Might as well do a WIP thread for this drift demo showcar I'm building.

It all started with an idea to make a realistic as possible model given the time and funds available. Also to kick the current driftking's ass. ;)

What better way to do that than with a Saleen S7R supercar with a custom paintjob?

Starting off with the small bits first.

Lightbuckets, wired up and ready to go.

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

I'm going to go with either these:

or these if they're available:

So far so good. I wanted to go with flames on the hood originally but the mask proved to be a bitch in that area. So I decided to go with double pinstripes instead.

The boys heard what was going on and decided to pay the shop a visit.

Final color is on and now it's back in for clearcoating. Keep in mind this is my first attempt at freehand pinstripe cutting.

I'd go with evoraptor, the Work XSA's would look sweet on that. Plus the deep dis would set that supercar off nicely. 0mm offset is soooooo out :? it's all about 6mm+ now :-o

The car's coming along nicely tho

I don't know about offsets and what nots, but I think the black centers would really set that awesome shade of blue off.

you use different offset to fit the rims flush with the side of the car. 190mm bodies are designed to mainlly use 0mm offset rims. That is, when the rims go on the chassis they fill out the body.

Recently, HPI has stopped making 190mm bodies, since the trend toward deep-dish rims. Making 200mm bodies for electric cars means that the bodies are now 5mm wider at each wheel and encourages deep dish rims.

I have a narrow chassis, so I have to use 7mm offset to fill a 190mm body.

Hope that helped

Shell's done. a few things left to do such as wire up the other lights (little party piece I came up with) and some decals.. and i'll be set.

It turned out alright. Not as good as the Zonda but pretty close. Looking at the body and the way it sits on the chassis, I'll definitely go with an offset in the rears.

the white LED headlamps threw the camera's white balance off a bit.
