hardcore? the pistols were lame, the damned were much better. i skated too, ever seen z-boys & dogtown, i'm in the background in diapers. runnin mini-rcs is better on the knees than skatin, but i miss it still. gene loves jezebels early stuff was good. but gbh & discharge are still the stuff. tonight i will do some modding, while listening to some black flag, or maybe tsol. then i will cap the evening off with some ramones, & sniff a lil glue.i dont know why i typed this, i guess i need more glue.

I agree, The Damned are one of my favorites. I was just listening to the Peel sessions of them. I didn't mind Gene Loves Jezebel, I was into the goth/college rock thing as much as hardcore, they're just fun to pick on because of their name. GBH, Discharge, Black flag, that's all good shit. I loved TSOL, but we'll just pretend that 'Hit and run' album never happened.gearboy wrote:hardcore? the pistols were lame, the damned were much better. i skated too, ever seen z-boys & dogtown, i'm in the background in diapers. runnin mini-rcs is better on the knees than skatin, but i miss it still. gene loves jezebels early stuff was good. but gbh & discharge are still the stuff. tonight i will do some modding, while listening to some black flag, or maybe tsol. then i will cap the evening off with some ramones, & sniff a lil glue.i dont know why i typed this, i guess i need more glue.

Dude, that's a bit harsh... lame? I dig everything on yer list and all, but I don't know about the Sex Pistols being lame. Whatever cranks yer scooter I guess. Not that it fits the category perfectly, but when it comes to hardcore energy fused with bawls to the wall power, I'm a Motörhead.gearboy wrote:hardcore? the pistols were lame, the damned were much better.
That sounds like a perfect way to cap off any evening.gearboy wrote:then i will cap the evening off with some ramones, & sniff a lil glue.

Yeah, that is bit extreme, The Sex Pistols totally turned everything upside down. I was just agreeing that I like the Damned better, but realistically considering the more gothic direction they took on later albums a lot of harcore fans might consider them lame.hue35 wrote:Dude, that's a bit harsh... lame? It not so much the Sex Pistols that are lame, as much as the Sid Viscous wannabees that were at my school, beating their heads against the walls like a scene from Sid and Nancy every day of the week.

Damn dude, I like your style. I agree, I think people give way too much credit to the Sex Pistols, but I still have some respect for the Pistols. They pissed a lot of people off.gearboy wrote:the ramones & the new york dolls turned it upside down, the pistols were a malcolm mclaren invention. generation x were better too.
I don't know how many times I got in the "first punk band" debate, and so many people think it was the Pistols, but I always tell them The Ramones are the band that the phrase, 'punk rock' was coined for, and before the Ramones the term did not exist. So that clearly makes them the first punk band. Even Johnny Rotton has said they got the inspiration to start the Sex Pistols after seeing the Ramones for the first time in '76.
...but now we're way off the subject of bits...

I know we're off topic, but...
And MC5 and The Stooges turned it upside down before them... and you could play that game forever, all the way back to Louis Jordan in the early 40's and Robert Johnson before him. Point is, it's all connected and it all has roots, and that's one of the things that makes having a record collection cool...gearboy wrote:the ramones & the new york dolls turned it upside down
True as that may be, I'm just sayin' the Sex Pistols probably don't deserve the "lame" category. And, as far as bands being "better" than other bands... opinions are cool, but ultimately it's all personal. I like Sham 69 and the Deadboys better than I like the Damned, but that doesn't make them better bands. Anyway, it takes a whole world to make a whole world, and by design that gives us all a lot of record-buying options... which is better than celery.gearboy wrote:the pistols were a malcolm mclaren invention. generation x were better too.
