Link sends you to the main page of their website but Im pretty sure all cold heat irons work the same so

I didnt really like the way it melted the solder. IMO just stick with a regular soldering iron :-o

I think I killed one with some nimh batts. The tip is very fat and split in two. It does cool rather fast, but not instantly *ouch*
To me working on bits/zips and PCBs in general it's too fat.

This thread should be in the dumpster as you are not reviewing the Coldheat iron ;)

I'm sorry I wasnt sure whether to post it here or in discussion. Looks like im not gonna end up buying that thing. Too big of a tip for zip zaps and it sucking is not worth my $18

Thanks guys

I saw this Weller battery powered iron at Home Depot that I'm going to buy. $17, it's got a perfect tip for small work, heats up in 15 seconds and runs on 3 AAAs...

The mini butane iron from radio shack is pretty nice for $19.99
(only possible problem is that you have to be 18+ to purchase butane refills..refills cost 2$ a bottle at lowes and last about a year)

I'm skittish about touching battery or a/c powered soldering irons
to circuit boards.

I got a cold heat from Rat Shack for $10.00 (thank God for coupons). I also purchased the different tips. I've used it to replace an antenna wire on an SE but it's not for small precision work on PCB's. It's more designed for electrical wiring work around the house (lamps, AC cords, etc.). I would like it for attaching motor wires but not installing FET's.
Sitting at my workbench in my comfortable little Hobbit hole.
