01's are pretty crappy. The only reason to grab one is for a collection you may have going.
I know these guys are hellbent on Kyosho's.
But for the price hunter, I think the IW02's are very well made, and the new, new, IW02's look like a great buy with the new chassis design. (I'll have one of the new models soon I hope.)
Either way, 01's are only worth grabbing for a collection or the seriously budgeted person. If its all you can spring for, its a good buy, otherwise look into a used car.

What about for the RC newbie that just want to get into 1:28 racing and will probably bash it anyway?sg219 wrote:01's are pretty crappy. The only reason to grab one is for a collection you may have going.

Can they compete with stage 2 motors in Xmods?
Where can I get cheap motors to hop them up?

Yes, they can hang with Stage 2's. They handle better that an OG Xmod.
For a throw around ride, I think they would be cool. I like mine for full contact racing. Not saying I won't bash around anything else, its just that it is a simple car to run stock.
I like the IW02's I have, and the 01 also, but the OG IW's is still alot of fun to crash arond a track.

I own and drive...
3-IW-02's
2-IW-OG's
1-IW-01
I will say this too. The new XM-EVO's (2WD) are pretty nice on the track along side the IW's.
I found the handling is a much improved feature on them.
I'd really like to get a Mini-Z someday, but I just gotta find the right deal on one for cheap.

I agree about the new IW02s (different chassis altogether), I just haven't even seen one in person. As I said earlier, a Firelap 2.0 (formerly IW02) is not bad and less than an xmod evo. They don't have as solid of steering as the Kyosho MR02, and the servo saver barely works. The build quality is just a little lower, but it's minor difference in build quality and electronics that means the difference between an afternoon of kick-ass racing and an afternoon of fussing with your car.sg219 wrote:01's are pretty crappy. Believe me, I'm not a Kyosho fanboi, and I wish there was a lower-priced alternative that was just as good. I'm just suggesting by the time you dump a bunch of money into an iWaver or anything MR01, you still won't have as good of a car as an MR02 out of the box. I think most people who have all of the aforementioned chassis would agree with me, or at least know what I'm saying.

To superfly....What you just said I talked about all tonight.
I baught an Xmod for really cheap, and Yes I could go nuts and up it all to keep up with my uncles stock MR-02...but I realized for a little more in price you still get the best bang for the buck...
This lead me to buying a MR-02 MM Lamborghini Diablo, and making all my xmod chassis, project cars to have fun with on the side...
If you want more UP time with racing and fun, and alot less down time of modding and experimenting go with kyosho.
