I had a Ford...Once.
Seriously, the car my grandma gave me when I was 16 was a '76 Gran Torino. I never drove it, cause I never saved up money for insurance, and my uncle sold it for drugs, but still I've been really tempted to get that Starsky and Hutch Zip Zap, paint it a really light faded metallic blue, put silver patches to simulate oxidation. Have that silver go to primer in a few spots, Have the trunk lid rusted, and bam that'd be dead on for my first car (That I never drove).
That's about all I can say about Fords.

Aaaaah. Ford 390. Wideblock, right? My brother used to have a '76 Ford pickup with a 4 barrel 390, and 2wd. That truck was a beast. Made my 302 powered Mustang II feel like the four banger Pinto wagon I had back in the day.
These days, I'm enjoying a 5.0 powered Crown Vic. Borrowed with the option to buy.... I'm buyin' it! My LeSabre just isn't pimpy enough. Or big enough. I'm one of those little white dudes that was born to drive massive cars.
I think that the '75 Bonneville(boat) that my dad pimped around in when I was a kid is responsible for this. That is my all time favorite ride... triple black(paint, roof, interior), skirts, Pontiac star rally wheels w/beauty rings, white walls, power everything.... that ride was like a mile long, and a coupe. My dad is one of those guys that isn't gonna let something like having 3 kids stop him from driving a fresh coupe. I cried when he traded that car in.... for a '78 Thunderbird(also pimpy).
Back on subject, I'm glad I didn't open the Chevelle I bought a few nights ago, because I'm probably gonna take it back and get a GTO.

umm im not going to be on sides because im not a hater of either i like the mustang and i like stuff like skylines but you can drive a car with slicks on the road legally?viperdout wrote:It ain't cheap, but it ain't that bad. I bet the motor was about 15k, and to get any import motor putting out that kind of hp and be gas friendly enough to drive 20 miles, then make at least 3 passes on 10.5s w/o fillin up the tank or opening the hood, that would be a feat. Considering that it is for racing only, it is cheap. Hog said that it cost around 250k, I have putup that it doesn't. Make it 8k for the turbo setup, 2k for cam, heads, and intake, and then stroll over to Coast High Performance and pick yourself up a 347, you'd be set (yes, their kit includes crankshaft, pistons, etc.). I'd say that's pretty cheap considering you can pick up a good condition 87-93 roller for 3k. Throw in some gear, a 9 inch, beef up the suspension, and a 2 speed powerglide, trans brake, new converter, Slicks, skinnies, and you could keep it under 30k, which is pretty good for a car that'll kill anything on the road. Last time i checked, an EVO 8 was running for about that. I wish I had the money for it too. I also consider it a lot cheaper than a Supra, or if you wanna get fancy, a Skyline. I forgot, some yellow stickers should be good for another 10-15 horses also.
Hog, are you calling F&F a good car movie? Are you kidding? 2F2F was cool ONLY because they had some Muscle that was ripping rice to sreds (The imps winning in that scene is a figment of the writer's imaginations). I will admit some imports are fast, but today, I see WAY more fart pipes than actual fast shit. You wanna see funny, look at a Civic driver's face after they get ripped by a V8 Explorer. Yes, any car can be made to do anything, but the bottom line is, a domestic can do it cheaper and more effectively than an import. And someone forgot to mention American Graffiti...
