Bought an SE

Well, I did it. I was going to radio shack to check out the Xmods (not really ready to shell out the $50 just yet) bought a SE, mainly out of curiosity. I had never owned or driven a ZZ, but thought I'd try it out.
Now don't get me wrong, the SE is a pretty good car, but even with all the fancy features, I like my bits way more.
My biggest gripe with the SE is the controller. Whoever designed it should be beaten severly. I seems they had infants and toddlers in mind when designing it. Instead of pulling the trigger back to go foward/foward to back up, it is totally reversed. Also I bought a hop up kit with the bigger motors, and my bits still trounce it.
I must say that the proportional steering is way cool, and the lights are pretty neat, but kill the battery very quickly. (a separate battery mod is in the works)
I will say that the bodies have very nice detailing, but are a pain to remove once on the chassis.
Overall, I like the ZZ's (hate the remote). But I'm still going with the Bit Char-g as my weapon of choice. Sometimes simpler is better.

There's a switch on top of the Tx that lets you change the controls.

A stock SE is not all that hot, but once you do some work on it, you'll be loving it.

When I first got me SEs, I'wasn't happy with the performance either, but now that it's been souped up, it's the shit. I hold the Tx with my right hand, and steer with my left. Much more comfortable that way.

I'll whip asses up and down with mine. Can't wait to put that baby on the mini Z track at the LHS

Ok, I got it squared away, I like the remote a little more now. It is still too small for my meathooks. I removed the PCB screws and looked inside and they really don't leave much room for mods. Has anyone dual celled an SE yet?

Update: Lowered the front a little. Here it is(so far)

yea I hate the small controller too, but crazydave gave us a fix for that here:

I don't believe anyone has been successful in dual celling an SE, I don't think the PCB will allow for the extra juice if I'm not mistaken

Yep, the SE needs a fet mod done to allow the extra flow of juice from a dual cell.

I prefer the SE fetted, and not a dual celled, cause the SE is heavy as is.

It's already running a dual cell isn't it?

Yeah SE's are a longer 2.4V NiMh.

I just sent micro_amps an e-mail. I am ok at soldering, but I would rather have someone with experience do the FET mod on this car.

I just picked up a couple of the small 70mah cells, to try and add one or two to my fet modified SE.

Yes, 2 70 mah cells in shrinkwrap

Actually 2 shorter 1.2v cells (see above)

I swore after buying my 1st SE (yellow RX7) I wouldn't buy another, then about a month ago I was in the underground, at the RS and saw the Audi TT in grey and bought it immediately along with another case. Luv this body!! It performs much better than the 1st one (that I gave to my son). I don't get the steering jitter of the first, better speed, more acurate steering. I just saw where Sinned lowered his Audi TT and the lights still work ?

Yeah, I got the mustang just because it was there, and I was so happy with it, because it performed so much better than my Savannah. Then only days later I happened to be in the mall again, and stopped by Radio Shack, just to kill time until the next bus. They had just got the TT in, and I loved the way it looked so much, I hated myself for buying that stupid Mustang.
