Flux is the same as the paste that I was describing, it helps solder to adhere.

your soldering iron should be fine. to get that little dab off the tip, you just gotta be quick, press once firmly and quickly pull it back, it should leave the blob of solder on the battery and wire.

keep chanting - the bit gods will hear it

as Cabo said...Iron size is fine.

Clean the tip: get a sponge and wet it. Wipe the iron tip with the sponge til shiny solder shows. it should sizzle when you do this.

Good point Nox, always, always clean your tip. After you clean your tip you should put a dab of solder on it to get fresh rosin flowing.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

more questions.. but soon enough be slowing down

Post by laanguiano »

Also... This stuff racks up quick. 10 buck magnifing glass with clips to hold the bit while soldering. 3 buck for solder. 4 bucks for wire 3 bucks for flux paste... thats enough money just to buy another bit.

What gauge wire is good to use for soldering batteries?

My batteries do have solder tabs on them... do i do anything with those?

laang, just wipe the tip with the sponge quickly, don't leave it on there and scrub or anything

yes, sometimes this stuff adds up quick, however, those "helping hands" (clips and maginfying glass) - you'll use over and over again so they're worth the money (took me 3 dual cells before I finally caved and bought one). The solder and the paste will last you for a long time to come so that's worth it too.

as far as wires go, I'd use the same gauge as what is under your PCB, you want thin wires so everything fits back together nicely.
You can use the tabs or rip them off, I rip em off cuz you'll be soldering anyway.

ah thos helping hand things are for retards :-D
and who cares about flux?
just scuff it up on the end real quick with a brillo or something and get a decent sized glob of solder on the tip and kinda try to scrape the blob off onto the battery. it takes a few tries but its easy once you do it. let the blob cool and then put a little solder on the end of the wire and press the wire against the blob on the battery with the iron until it liquifies and pull the iron away.

first of all, all cars will run when hooked up to the charger cause its using the chargers batteries not the ones in the car while its charging.

When i did my dual mods th eproblem i had that took me a while to troubleshoot why it wasnt working was the fact that the positive of the battery wasnt actually making a goof contact on the terminal, and also th efirst set i tried i fried the batts :)

Wire

Post by laanguiano »

What gauge wire should i use... and also should it be braded wire or solid wire. I had been using a solid copper wire (insulated), but i was thinking maybe other wires might solder easier.

Let me know what you all use and what workds best.
