Want to talk about micro boats or micro planes? How about trains, slot cars or submarines? Well you can do it all right here. If it's another hobby and it doesn't fit in one of our other forums, then it goes here.

Post by Namuna »

Coming soon!

I just ordered the equipment needed, very soon I'll be hosting QTVR (QuickTime Virtual Reality) images of our favority hobby items!

Here's a preview of what QTVR is all about:

Digital Camera in QTVR (Note: You may be asked to download Quicktime in order to view, trust me...it's worth the download)

maybe I just misunderstood you, Payaso, but you can spin the item. That's the main feature with QTVR. When you open the link, don't click any of the buttons below the picture, just go straight to the camera and spin it with the hand.

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

The QTVR page is now up! First item up for exhibit is the Mach5.

Just go to my site and you'll see the 'QTVR' link on the left window.

Be warned: The initial window load is gonna take a few, the QTVR file is almost 2mb (when I get home I've got more compression options, so I'll be tweeking the file).

Shit, let me tell you guys that this project was a PAIN IN THE ASS to get going! I spent the last 3 days up till 2am trying to figure out which package would do the best job (QTVR is Mac dominated and finding a decent package for PC was a BITCH).

If you want to build your own 'Object Movie' here's what you gotta do:
- For best results, take 36 pictures of the object...1 per 10° increment, up to 360° (I bought a special turntable, the Kaidan Pixi manual turntable that's already got the increments on there)
- Then you take those images and use an 'Object Movie' capable piece of software to make the final product.

Sounds easy enough right? WRONG!
- Those 36 pictures are just for the 1 angle of rotation, you'll need a SHITLOAD more shots if you want to be able to pan up and down...Not to mention a way to take those pictures in a consistent manner.
- Since even under the most perfect conditions do you get perfect pictures, you gotta 'fix' all those pictures you took before working it into the object movie (photoshop with Actions is a GOD send for that)
- Okay, so now you've got your pictures all fixed up nice...Next you take that and put it into the object movie software, unless you took those pics under tight conditions (I used the special turntable, with camera on a tripod AND a shutter remote) you're going to have to adjust ALL your pictures to make sure they line up properly (Even with my tight setup, you can still see little bits of jerkiness when rotating).

That being said...I can't wait to do my next object!

Can you make it to where when you zoom in, it doesn't get all fuzzy??

Or is that a shit load more work?

I'd attribute that to the compression used. I used generic 'animation' compression for the current set, I gotta toy with some other means for best result.

gotta remember too, even at that small size and the zoom fuzzy...It's coming in at 2mb! More angles of rotation and lower compression for zoom would make these object movies HUGE.
