Mustang SE greatly improved
I just played with My mustang SE for the first time. I am impressed. It handled great, and had about as much torque as my FET'ed SE that still needs the bugs worked out.
What really got me was that I got a 10 minute run from a single charge, and that was almost non stop running with the headlights.
I didn't mind the jitter in the steering when it handled good. This is much better than the RX-7 I bought.
I was in shock so I had to run a stock Zip Zap 350Z to compare, and it did have better off the line punch, but they were much more closely matched. I then tried my FETed SE and it was about the same as the Mustang, but it only ran about 3-4 minutes on a single charge.
I'm going to go stick some FETs in this right now, to see how it responds. I'm also gonna go over the PCB to see if I can't spot the change from the first one

I say greatly, you marginally, whatever at least we agree it's better.hogjowlz wrote:ya it is marginally better.

I did some digging around when I put FETs in it, and I learned something that will definately boost our performance further.

More on this tomorrow, after I've had some sleep. I've got a headache right now.

Are the newer Zip Zaps SEs better? I'm looking at the white RX-7 (the Savannah I think...2nd gen 1986-1992 Rx-7 anyway) but don't know if I want to spend $25 and then $13 for the upgrade kit when I already have a Lxx char-g with a 4.2 pro in it..does the 4.2 Pro work as good as the 34,000 RPM Zip Zap motor? Are the newer versions (non launch...like the ones I could buy now at Radio Shack) of the Rx-7s any better than the first ones that came out?

If your looking to get a SE, avoid the white RX-7 Savannahs. The Yellow RX-7 Enfinis are reported to be slighty improved. This Mustang I found to be an enjoyable car, but it still has the SE's issue with a lack of torque. Me and ph2t are trying to work out a solution to that. (micro_Amps has already figured it out) I just saw the Audi TT at Rat Shack, and it looks great, I really wish I held out for that instead of the Mustangoxhadokenxo wrote:Are the newer Zip Zaps SEs better? The 4.2 has a faster top end than the 3.4 (as evidenced by the numbers

The SE's proportional controls makes it an entirely different animal than the traditional bit. So it will not replace yor LXX, it'll just give you something else to play with.

Dave speaking on the SE's I found that unmodded the 4.2 sucked in them(I am sure everyone feels this way) but what I did find was the motor that is in mine (not sure what motor has a black end bell) was great in it. I have the yellow rx7 and didn't like the torque on it.
I was gonna get the mustang till I saw the TT now I gotta have that shipped up
(dave have you played with my se? do you agree with that motor I have it in? you know what motor that is? hehe so many Q's)

I sat your car aside until I figure out what I'm doing, so I haven't looked at it. I just pulled it out to see what your talking about.VooDooMafia wrote:(dave have you played with my se? do you agree with that motor I have it in? you know what motor that is? hehe so many Q's)
That sure is a black endbell motor, isn't it? I never seen one of those before, any idea where it came from? I noticed your using the red gears, my SE wouldn't pull the red gears with any motor, even partially FETed. I'm gonna have to check that motor out!

Seems all the newer ones (mustang and audi) have better torque. I tried the "crazydave partial fet mod", and the new ones are about the same as that. But my fully fetted one still kicks ass. Check the video out.

What he fricken hates is the need to go out and get 4 AAA batteries at 1am in the morning to play with his new toy........noxorc wrote:crazydave wrote:If your looking to get a SE, avoid the white RX-7 Savannahs.
