Takara Digi Q thoughts?

Post by SilentWolv »

I can't find any talk in these forums about the TAKARA DIGI Q's. Reviews around the internet sound pretty good on them, so I ordered a few.

Anyone have any experience with these? Will I be ex-communicated with Bit-Pimps for owning them? :-(

In this realm I have:

- 4 DigiQ cars
- 1 Digi-Propo Controller
- 1 Digi-Propo Special Controller

I also have 2 of the Nikko iRacers (a kind of knock-off of the DigiQ).

There's a whole forum for the DigiQs over at TinyRC, and plenty enough thoughts about the DigiQ so I'm not going to go much into a comparison.

I like my DigiQs, they are tiny, cute, and the technology of them is pretty damned cool. The question of why they aren't as big a hit as the Bits? I would attribute 2 things...DigiQs ain't cheap, and they're not as modifiable.

They sound like a strange animal. 2 batteries, 2 motors, and the front wheels don't steer. (I think on the Q-R they turn, but from what I've read, the rear tank-drive still does most of the steering).

I seen on ebay these Takara techs made some Digi Q's that are controlled by your cell phone! (um, thats pretty stupid while you're dialing Mars  )

And they claim they are 4 times as fast?

I'd like to see Cabo chop up a ZZ body to fit one of these! Tiny they are! I think some of the pullback bodies fit?

Wait until I compare these when I get em, then you can punch me in the stomach. I'll check out what the guys at tinyrc are saying, thanks.

If by 'pullback' you mean the ChoroQ (or old Penny Racers) then yes they'll fit...but only after a good amount of modifications.

The Q-R has front wheels that turn, yes. But they're on an axle that's loose and by centrifical force of going into a turn they help the car turn. I don't have a Q-R to speak of it personally, but I've heard it's decently cool.

These are Mini Master Tanks
Image

The Takara ones are great too, a little more expensive, but quality is the same.

Bascially, you're correct it has 2 separate motors to drive independently. So you could do 360spins all day long.

You left of one button and the other will will keep going and that's how you turn. It's how real tanks turn left and right.

They pivot on each other from side to side. I do wish they made mini tanks that can move the gun cannon turret. That would be fun.

I would not say they are the same quality nore even close. The digi Q tanks use IR so there are no antenas and they also use IR for teh lazer tag portion of them.

I have both and I would spend more money on more digi q tanks then the clone tanks out there.

Plus I can buy just the tank(with rom) and use my controller I already have.

Moving turrets here I come lol

The Combat Digi-Q Tank shells are made by Dragon Models...The people that make KICK-ASS military models. I have a bit of a hard time believing the clones come anywhere close in detail, scale and craftmenship. But I've never bothered buying a tank clone so I can't say for sure.

Tiny is still waiting on Konami to ship the turret controllable tanks, it's been awhile I'll have to bother him to get an update.

Hi,

Yeah you're right, detail precision is probably not as nice as a Takara, just thought you were talking about getting a mini r/c tank.

If you're into collectibles, yea Takara is the way to go. If you just want a quality mini r/c tank to crawl over things on your desk. There's really nothing wrong with the Mini Master tank.

Agreed if you just want a tank to say "Hey I got a tank with treads check this out" then yea get a cheap clone cause they are still fun as hell to play with.

If you want something that looks good contains a lasertag type IR game and now has moving turrets then digi Q is the way to go.

Me I came from the Games workshop hobby(still into it really) so I loved to make tables to play my miniature games on. So the digi Q just gave me a reason to make a nice war scean table and now I have a game to play on it :)
