Not from the factory, and it didn't cost a 1/4 mil. The RS 200, which is a factory car, and was designed for rallying, pulled mid 9s in the 1320, is the fastest car 0-60, at 2.1 seconds, and you can pick one up for about 120k. The RS hhas 654 hp. That is STOCK, FACTORY SPECS. The 1700 hp stang I was talking about also didn't cost anywhere near 250k, as it was a single turbo, and a simple 331 stroker kit, I.E., it was cheap. I also believe that the design in the computers is american, though they probably are made in china (like all other electronics). Chrysler suffered a hostile takeover, even though it was called a merge. I call that merge bs, as the company is almost all german now. I also said imports, as referring to Japanense and Korean cars. Who could not love Ferraris and Benzes. I do not like the new Viper. The old one was absolutely great, as i can attest to. The Ford GT is kicking ass and taking names. It just got uprated to 550 hp, and an independent dyno facility just got around 600 at the wheels. That lists at 139k. You're just pissed because of the unspoken 276 hp rule.

And to add insult to injury, I can pick up a new SVT Cobra with 390 FACTORY HP!

Ummm, well, umm, see the motor kinda rocks back and forth and that just makes the scoop look like it's shaking....

That guy that married Loni Anderson had a Trans Am with a shaker hood, in some movie had that guy in that always said, "...bang, pow, to the moon, Alice."...Remember Knight Rider? That was a neato Trans Am.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

so dave: you are telling me that there were movies about hot cars before fast and the furious?

(vipered out: if your whole "i hate foreign shit" rant was meant to say "fuck all you kids who think spoilers and vinyl stickers make cars go faster" then yes i agree)

o.k.

So a 15 year old calls putting a turbo and a stroker kit on a Mustang "cheap".

Man, I wish I had that kind of dough at 15.

Hell, I wish I had that kind of dough now.

It ain't cheap, but it ain't that bad. I bet the motor was about 15k, and to get any import motor putting out that kind of hp and be gas friendly enough to drive 20 miles, then make at least 3 passes on 10.5s w/o fillin up the tank or opening the hood, that would be a feat. Considering that it is for racing only, it is cheap. Hog said that it cost around 250k, I have putup that it doesn't. Make it 8k for the turbo setup, 2k for cam, heads, and intake, and then stroll over to Coast High Performance and pick yourself up a 347, you'd be set (yes, their kit includes crankshaft, pistons, etc.). I'd say that's pretty cheap considering you can pick up a good condition 87-93 roller for 3k. Throw in some gear, a 9 inch, beef up the suspension, and a 2 speed powerglide, trans brake, new converter, Slicks, skinnies, and you could keep it under 30k, which is pretty good for a car that'll kill anything on the road. Last time i checked, an EVO 8 was running for about that. I wish I had the money for it too. I also consider it a lot cheaper than a Supra, or if you wanna get fancy, a Skyline. I forgot, some yellow stickers should be good for another 10-15 horses also. 8)

Hog, are you calling F&F a good car movie? Are you kidding? 2F2F was cool ONLY because they had some Muscle that was ripping rice to sreds (The imps winning in that scene is a figment of the writer's imaginations). I will admit some imports are fast, but today, I see WAY more fart pipes than actual fast shit. You wanna see funny, look at a Civic driver's face after they get ripped by a V8 Explorer. Yes, any car can be made to do anything, but the bottom line is, a domestic can do it cheaper and more effectively than an import. And someone forgot to mention American Graffiti...

Couldn't agree more. Also, 15-year olds talking about "30k" like it's a drop in the bucket... must be sweet.

Hey Viper, can I borrow some money? Not a lot, just like... oh, say... 15k?

The whole import vs. domestic thing is ridiculous. What good is 1800 HP if you can't hook it up to the ground or turn a corner?

Chrysler's cars haven't been as good as they are now for decades. Judging Chrysler by the Viper is like judging Chevrolet by the Corvette. Both are pet projects by special teams within the corporation, not indicitive at all of the majority of their products.

Hell, I got into plenty of trouble in a 4 cylinder, 16v, 140 hp VW Scirocco that I bought for $6k.

Uhhh, quote the part where I said I was getting said car? I merely said to hog, "where have you seen a 1700 hp streetable import, b/c I've seen one run 8s on street legal Drag Radials. And for your information, I plan on picking up a high mileage '93 Cobra, as my neighbor picked one up for the kind of money I have, or I'm gonna buy an LX, buy some nice bolt-ons, and I shouild have a pretty sweet ride.

Hue, I said it was cheap for a race car. People are spending 30k on Evos, so I figured I'd show what else you could do with 30k. I have never said I could build it, I was saying with that money you could build it. Again, quote where I've said that I was goning to make and/or buy such a car?
