Hitari Mean Speed Machine

Post by Sdog »

Anyone got one of these sets? Know how I can get my hands on a set?

Unfortunately, I missed out on this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWA:IT

I have also seen them here: http://www.bonzergear.com/html/video_clips.HTM

And they are sold in the UK here: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/store ... ctId=86872

Yeah.....thats what I'm hearing. But the shells look pretty nice on them and I wants me a set to go with the Zip collection. I got my eyes peeled. If I pick a set up, I'll review them for you since no other pimps seem to have them.

I won one of these Hitari sets on Ebay from the UK. Just arrived today and thought I would give you the lowdown.

The set comes with one chasis, two shells (WRX and Civic), two sets of hubcaps, three different motors and three different sets of gears. The controller islike no zipzap or bit with a flexible, rubber coated ant. It has a stand alone charger, which I don't care for too much. The controller takes a 9V and the charger two AA's.

Here is the box:

As Hog said, they are just like Zip Zaps. They are the same exact size, the chasis are almost identical, and they have the hubcab style wheels.

The ZipZap is on the left, the hitari on the right. Notice there is no hole for a pivot point suspension bar on the Hitari and the PCB's are different:

Similar spring suspension setup:

I really like the shells in this set. Great detail:

The Civic is on a ZZ chasis with ZZ wheels:

As far as performance is concerned...

They charge real fast and the charge lasts pretty long. They are pretty quick too. The turning radius is a bit large compared to ZZ'z and it turns a little sharper one way than the other. I bought this set used and one of the clips on the PCB was broken, so who knows what meddling occurred. Haven't dove that deep in to them yet.

I won the auction for 99 cents UK or about 1.85 US dollars. Of course shipping was like 8 bucks from the UK....so about 10 bones total. I've seen these for sale in a UK store called ARGOS for $16.99. I think I have seen a couple more auctions for them on Ebay if anybody is interested.

Man, that Subie shell is awesome...

<bird adds yet another ride to the "gotta get list">

What's the controller like? I'm assuming like a ZZ? I forgot to ask earlier...

Have I mentioned how awesome that Subie looks?

The controller is totally different from ZipZaps (seperate charger remember). Good thing about the controller is that it has an awsome range (even worked through a brick wall  ).

The other main difference is that the Hitari uses a central coil and 2 magnets for steering (see earlier pictures).

99pence is a great deal for these cars, the shell detail is awsome.

They were also sold in NEXT (clothing store with boys toys section) last christmas - but with different packaging and no upgrade parts.

The reason for the seperate charger is to get round the Niko patent.

Cheers

You know, I consider a stand alone charger a bonus. That way you're not killing your reception by draining your controller's batteries.

Those are pretty cool at that price, I almost want to get one except they are so similar to Zip Zaps, and I already have so many.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

I haven't ever seen just shells. The shells are the main reason I bought this though. For ten bucks shipped I thought it was worth it just for the shells. I'll try to get some pics up of the controller and charger tonight.

I have tons-o-bits, but I'm new on the ZZ scene, so I'm not hip to the lingo yet. What is an "OG" ZipZap? I searched for it, but got nothing. Please excuse my newbish question.
