Refurbished Xmod
So I guess Hue don't use his Xmod now that he's playing with Mini-Zs. He offered it to me for a screaming deal I couldn't pass up.
So now I got's me another Xmod. Despite Hue's heavy use, the chassis was in better condition than mine, because he had only run it indoors, but the body had been beat on pretty good, mostly by Superfly's car.
So I wanted to clean it up, and make it like new, which was pretty easy, because Hue included most of the remains of the body set.
Here's what I started with

After switching back to mostly stock body pieces, I took the stickers off, masked it off and gave it a good sanding. I layed a light metallic grey. I dig this color because it turns almost silver when the light hits it.
I made a replacement lense for the headlight out of, what else?... Zip Zap packaging. It came out pretty good, except that because it's thinner plastic, it doesn't come flush with the hoodline, but otherwise it fills up the space pretty well, I'm happy with it.

I just wanted it to look like new for now, but I might lay some flames or a race scheme in a couple weeks when I get bored with it, and if I haven't scratched it up too bad.

Wow, uh... I changed my mind... I'd like that back now
Seriously though, that's cool to see it so cleaned up after
the beatings Mr. Plow (SuperFly) gave it... yeah, I mentioned
it to dave already, but SuperFly is a ruthless bastard on the
track, so I call him Mr. Plow (he usually just snickers, then
runs me into a wall or something)... needless to say, SF's
xmod is red.

"Mr. Plow,
That's my name,
that name again
is Mr. Plow"
crazydave had the great idea that I get me a satin jacket with
"Plow King" on the back... but, I think that would just encourage
SuperFly to step up... I like my cars more than he likes his, so
I'll just keep a few car lengths in front of him, just to be safe...

I think you're confusing being lapped with being ahead.
Let's ask Dave: most of that red paint was on the back of hue's car, right? Now how would I get red paint on the back of your car if you're passing me?
Get outta my way, bitch!

Uh oh, we got a good ol' fashioned shit talking session.
Kinda reminds me of when I raced 1/10th scale. Those modified guys were serious, and contact was not allowed. They'd get all serious out there, and get seriously pissed. Be yelling stuff like, "Man why you hacking me I thought you were my friend.", and be taunting each other between racing by calling each other a hack.
Anyways, sorry I rambled, but this just brought some images back to mind that cracked me up.
Superfly is right, there is quite of bit of red on the back, and particularly the side, but there is quite a bit going on in the front, you can see it in the picture.SuperFly wrote:I think you're confusing being lapped with being ahead.

So either you guys are playing chicken, or Hue's done his share of hacking too.

Damn I want to race you guys, that would be fun. I'm a hack too.

My racing strategy is, aim for the inside of the corner, with way to much speed, and use the other cars to hold me on the track.

Sounds like my plan of attack too.crazydave wrote: My racing strategy is, aim for the inside of the corner, with way to much speed, and use the other cars to hold me on the track.

If you ever play Gran Turismo, thats the best way to take the turns.

That's where I developed my strategy.
That game came out when I was racing. I loved it because you could dial your suspension to your driving style, and had all the adjustments I could make to my 1/10th scale cars. So I'd test out my theories in the game before I tried them on my Losi XXT. I think that helped me learn alot, and saved me time at the work bench.

Any of the times that we've hooked up with hog for outdoor 1/28 fun... be it xmods or the one time with iwavers... me and hog end up playing chicken somehow... I don't know if it's on purpose, or a subconscious thing with both of us... maybe it's on purpose on my behalf, because he could be standing there holding his car messing with it and I'll be in my own little world doing big figure 8s or something, and I'll just bomb into his foot at full speed for the hell of it lol...crazydave wrote:So either you guys are playing chicken, or Hue's done his share of hacking too.
The night we were running iwavers, me and hog went head-on... both of us at full speed... it blew the body off of mine, and I had to re-glue the one clip on the side... it was worth it, though... spectacular. I was back out there chasing him around trying to tag him again 5 minutes later lol.
Oh, BTW... That Supra is looking killer, man. I'm loving the subtle classiness of that gray... But it's making me realize how lazy I am... I have a project iwaver Lancer Evo shell(for my xmod) that I'm dragging out forever and an xmod Civic shell that I don't even run anymore that I need to get busy on...
It also makes me want to yell at hue and Fly to get busy applying some of those painting skills to some mini z shells... I have yet to see any 1/28 scale paint jobs from those guys... I guess they don't want to put in all of that work just to end up rubbing it all over the other ones car lol. I say hell with that... look at bettys stuff... It looks killer for the pics, and then he proceeds to kill it... That's the way to be.

You got it. You'll probably see some soon, but our cars take a beating. It's not quite as bad now that we have an RCP track, but there's still a lot of contact. I think we're gonna cook up a pair of McClaren F1s.Bird wrote:I guess they don't want to put in all of that work just to end up rubbing it all over the other ones car lol. I'm probably not gonna do too many custom Mini-Zs, mostly because SuperFly drives like a PCP smoker... seriously though, these cars take a beating, so it's hard for me to put too much time into a custom paint job.
All the parts are on the way for the McLarens. I am gonna build this one car up as nice as possible... it'll have a Whoa Nelly and a load of nice parts... anyway, here's the paint job I designed and faked in photoshop... I'm gonna mix the green custom...
