i learned a lot setting up the first xmod and now i'm going to use my powers for evil
the goal is to make a fast and stable car for track purposes (biiiiig track). the plan so far consists of:
awd xmod chassis
brass eyelets in the knuckle holes
i waver pcb, xmod servo
woah nelly 1.2
stock p dash armiture in an atomic motors can
alloy rear cups, main shaft holders and knuckles
flipped wheels
yeah racing bb's
4 cells (don't start me!)
i waver gt40 body
i had to do some choppin' on the bonnet and insides for internal clearance

i'm waiting on a couple of more deliveries but i've got the guts and half an arse done

these are the eyelets i use in the chassis for the knuckles. modified ones on the right

it's gonna take some work to get the body on but i got me a fancy new rotary tool today and i've run out of things to grind, cut, polish, drill, sand, sharpen, etc, so i'm dying to get into it!

whenever i do any cutting or drilling i measure each job by eye alone. the only time i use a ruler is to cut or draw a straight line. for some stupid reason whenever i measure and cut all parts first i find mistakes during assembly, so i just start again after each new stage.
anyways i've got it together and there seems to be a problem with the motor drawing too much current away from the servo meaning no steering under throttle. i remember this happening with my i waver and a higher turn motor (s03, 37t) fixed that so i'll try out a different motor.

i got some track time with this baby on the weekend and the results are exellent! it slid around at first so i changed tyres to the hard ones and it hung on beautifully. the power transfer is phenomenal, it went uphill almost as fast as downhill! nothing impressive on the speedo, 34kph but it's all transfered to the wheels on the ground. i didn't like the atomic can so i got another s03 into it and used the 11t gearset. i could even go higher, there's still torque to spare!
of course i tested to destruction! by the end of the night there was an obvious meshing issue after a hard knock and after taking it apart i found a broken motor mount. i got spares so it's up and running again with some minor reinforcing (2 washers).
so compared to my old i waver z 01 the xmod is a total winner on all counts.
speed/torque: just as good as as the ol iw
handling: superb! goes exactly where you point it and holds on tight
durability: this thing is like an armoured pitbull! i sliced through z beams mr01 with barely a scratch! (sorry dude!) i'd be confident to race this on a track full of mr01 destroying 1:10's!
weight: the hopped up 01 weighed in at 220g with batts and body. the gt40 x waver? 197g.
so i finally got a 1:28 racer that's tough enough for me and that can cut it with the big boys!
