A want a basher!!

General discussions, new info, and all stuff that's how you say, off the hook. Bit, ZZ, SE, MT, SS... as long as it's micro, it's here.

A want a basher!!

Post by Maxximum Attack »

With the death of my Xmod yesterday  . I got to thinking, I want a bit again. But it has to be one of those off road thingies. I am between the, SSMT and the ZZMT. I'm leaning toward the SSMT tho. Here are my reasons:

independent susp. all round
differentials (I've read that they're crappy)
Thin main chassis (will explain later)
Can use SS bodies, they have nice looking WRX

Now what I really want is a rally bit, but that seems like it will NEVER happen. I HATE TRUCKS :(. So, here is what i'm thinking...What if I lower the SSMT. I dont need this thing to climb over ANYTHING, so I don't need that much ground clearence

Image

Maybe I can lower the main chassis (shuffle the guts a bit). like this:

Image

Moving the center diff and the steering box upward, or the main frame down, potato potatah  , and shortening the springs.
So then comes the question, "where do the batteries go?"
A: I have no idea.

I was thinking of putting them above the pcb, but then you can't charge. So then i was reading the ZZMT sticky, I saw lipo talk. :???: It's thin enough maybe to fit under the pcb. Then i saw how expensive the charger was, so i was iffy.

I have no idea who this belongs to, but mad props anyhow
Image

Summary: Really and truely, I just want something that's decently quick with good ground clearance so I can go offroad and not have to worry about most rocks. If i can I'll use Xmod rims for less grip for drifting (yes/no?) If someone can suggest a cheap lipo battery+charger i'd be greatful.

I have never seen any of these in real life, so I'm asking for advice on my probable return to bits. Think this can be done (chassis choppin etc)?

For the offroad car And here is the video.

Oh and if that's not enough

Your idea IMO will be a very tough if not impossible project but more importantly based on a platform that universally has been slated as "suck Ass" There are bit and Zip sized WRXes out there. It can and has been done. But fuck who am I to slam a guys dreams, go for it, who am I to stop inginuity.

Now that baja is what i'm talking about :D. But I want 4WD!!. (stubborn)
What about using this and modding it in some way.

As for the rear suspension, since i'll be using big wheels like this:
Big up Betty...
Image

The driveshaft etc don't have to be flat on the chassis but can be suspended so that the chassis can move.

Actually FUCK all that. I want a fast bit for offroad.
Betty (or one of his students from the US) Make this for me
Image With a scooby body. I'd prefer a ZZ cuz it's longer than the bit, but i don't care.

If you want to make it for me just PM me for the details.
I'll be back later,

Maxx

Or should I just get a ZZMT and stick a scooby on it? I'm confused.

OK, it's final. I want a ZZMT.

This was the kicker for me:
richh's tricell ZZMT

Can I get someone to make a ZZMT that fast for me? any volunteers? I'd like a Black Viper please

I will play Jose Moriño and finance the project. Just gimmie the bill  . I WANT TOYS AGAIN!!
Can a mod move this to the lookin' to score section? This just turned into a transaction.

man, shit like that don't come cheap. go do some pricing of what's involved including shipping and it starts to get ugly.

then consider the cost of labour on top of that.

you should try some of these mods out for yourself :-o

Yeah, if I remember correctly I think it was betty that said he used cement to sand his bits. C'mon now, Maxx, you can do it, the living legend has laid down enough tuts to hold your hand.

I'm off your car now betty  I'm really onto the ZZMT now. I agree with you on the price of shipping etc, but it's more for me cuz i'll have to ship the parts here (island lacks any hobby stuff), to it'll be MORE expensive for me to do it myself.

But I have been reading alot tho, and i came across a post on tinyRC with a modded beetle ZZMT, I like it:
original german link

So I will purchase an SE and an MT and mod the MT. I only want propo throttle, no need for the steering bit. I will keep serching for a 'how to' on this but it seems easy once I don't want the steering. Anyone done it? SG? Dave?

I'll do some reading on boosting SE speed. Can i mix the SE + MT batteries to make a tricell? Would I need a FET mod for tricell?

The rock crawler mod will come ALOT later, (I'm not ready to hack at something that I can't easily replace)

More later

UPDATE:

I read this
and now I have more Q's: (considering iWaver PCB)

If I do a Iw PCB swap do I have to use an Iw controler or can i use something else? I really don't want a bulky controller (SE sized is great)

Do I really need alot of torque? I just want to drive my MT everywhere, in the dirt, road, no hills not really rock crawl either.

Will using the SE PCB drastically reduce torque of stock PCB?

How would I get more torque out of the SE PCB?more cells? gear changes?

Aw man, after asking all these questions i realise I'm looking for portability and not really fancy doohickeys. I just want a toy. But please still answer the questions.

EDIT: It all comes down to the controller, can I somehow use an SE controller with the iW PCB? I have Xmod crystals that I can use to sync both (TX+RX)

Also I've serched the TE sight the entire day and I can't find the PCB can some one post a link?

No

Probably not, but i would still keep a little bit of torque for small offroading

Will using the SE PCB drastically reduce torque of stock PCB?

Yes,most likely

How would I get more torque out of the SE PCB?more cells? gear changes?

MOSFET, DC Mod by codesucidae

if you wanna try an iw pcb in a zzmt and just have propo throttle and non propo steering then check dis:
http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/phpFo ... ats+method

no chassis work required!

i wouldn't bother with a zzse pcb personally, no torque without some lectric mods. but if your heart's set on it i got a zzse pcb kicking around that i'll never use :-)

If that SE board has those mods you were talking about, sure. Name your price (lets take this to the PM's) you wouldn't also happen to have one of those ZZ sized Subaru bodies too?

Ok guys I have an SE board, but it has soo many wires and I don't know where to solder the wires from my MT. I will have wires left over if my math is correct. So can some one repost this image with the solder points coloured with the ZZMT wire-colour that's supposed to be there. I think the two upper-most wires are power (correct me if I'm wrong). And betty, can you tell me where to solder the fixed resistor for the non-propo steering?

Image

Also can I make a tri-cell for the MT with tomy bit cells? Or does the MT need it's own batteries?

Thanx

with the resistors, you'll need 2 x 2.5k fixed resistors.
one goes between the blue and yellow wire and one between the blue and green. that should work fine.
