Micro RC timing system

General discussions, new info, and all stuff that's how you say, off the hook. Bit, ZZ, SE, MT, SS... as long as it's micro, it's here.

Micro RC timing system

Post by yakboy »

A few months ago somebody posted a link to a german site who were producing a timing system using coils. Can anybody remember the site ?? I've all but given up on the laser timing system I'm producing. Got the laser pointers & photo transistors set up but just haven't got the time to finish it & I've a feeling the flags will be a bugger to align

Betty , it was using induction coils instead of laser pointers and bolted underneath the track. Thanks for taking the trouble to post that up though.

I remember reading about that system. Sounded pretty cool, but I sure would like to hear more details about it. For example, the AMB timing system (which I've worked with) uses some fairly sophisticated processing to figure out precisely where the transponders are in relation to each other when the cross in rapid succession. That kind of stuff tends to be difficult to do, so I'm curious how that system addresses it, or if it does.

Yo YakBoy, you should have asked me. I put that post up (I think :-D )

It is a timing system put together by the techies at bit racer. Sven (based in USA and main supplier of bits/zz to the guys on bitracer has some details on his site)

I think it will set you back about 90euro, but the great thing is that it can track 6 cars at once (you need a computer to connect it to though).

Each car has its own passive transponder stuck underneath (simple coil, no power required - gets its power as it passes over the undertrack coil)

Here is a link to the site http://www.microracers24.com/

You have to go down the left side, find "Micro Parts" and it is at the end of the list. There is then a link for more info that gives you pics etc. All looks a bit heath robinson, but I am assured it works.

Drop me a line if you are serious about getting one and I will see if Sven can do a deal.

Nice thing is you should be able to fit the coil into one of the tiles in your brand new Bonzer Mat Pro  (when I get to the post office and send it - Monday now I am afraid :? )

Here are the pics from his site.

Cheers

TB

Is the communications protocol published? I'd be interested in writing my own tracking software for it.

Thats a pretty reasonable price, I hope they sell a truckload of 'em :)

What is the timing precision and jitter of the system?
